Tiger Tanaka
Just the 1 horse to look at this week, with the majority of the action geared towards the older horses. Tiger Tanaka, for Charley Rossi, delivered on her promise to take the Group 2 Prix Francois Boutin. In truth, Tiger Tanaka took this race with ease and although the form in behind is not overly strong, she did it in a manner that would suggest she is more than capable of competing at the very top level. Her game attitude and ability to travel on the bridle make her a real force amongst the French 2-year-old ranks.
This is a fantastic story for racing, a smaller yard claiming a horse for 9000 Euros, climbing through the ranks and taking a group prize. The horse ridden by the trainers partner, Jessica Marcialis and proof that it is still possible for the smaller yards to compete. Tiger Tanaka has won 5 of her 6 starts, has won over £60,000 in prize money as a juvenile and has that ever valuable black type on her record. Having been a close 3rd to Ventura Tormenta and The Lir Jet in the Robert Papin last month, she has proved her class and at this stage of the season, is probably the most exciting juvenile trained in France. Given her connections, she is always likely to be a bankable price wherever she turns up next and a shot at Group 1 level is now the most likely step.
