Notepad - Jarnac 1st September

Runners in the Prix Guy Brand at Jarnac, France

Racing in the French Provinces can sometimes seem like an entirely different sport. There are so many variations of track, each with their own particular charm and style. One of those unique tracks is Jarnac. A tight figure of eight track in western France, they host just a few meetings each year and whilst this Sundays card was a low grade affair, with 3 Class 5 events over the hurdles course, there are a couple of points to note from it. Firstly, it highlighted the recent form of Bryony Frost, who has thrived in France since her return from injury and who has now ridden 4 winners from her last 12 rides. Alongside her retainer with Isaac Souede and Simon Munir, she is forging a good partnership with the powerful Lageneste and Macaire team and looks set for a strong finish to the year when Auteuil resumes next week. I would also draw attention to the 3-year-old hurdle, the Prix de la Societe de Gemozac, won by Do Re Mix. Although we do need to add the context that this was a low grade class 5 event, there was a decent time figure produced by the winner (when compared to the older horses) and the debut of the 3rd placed Queen de Teillee offered some hope for her future.

Here are my notes from the card;

PRIX DE LA SOCIETE DE GEMOZAC

Do Re Mix and 2nd placed Ziskakan both raced prominently and were essentially able to control the pace. Having hit the front around the final bend, connections of Ziskakan will probably be disappointed that he didn’t hold on, but he looked to empty after the last and was outstayed by the winner, who came into the race with stronger form.

Queen de Teillee finished 3rd on debut having been outpaced before running on. Should improve for the outing. Front 3 clear.

PRIX HENRI DE LOTHERIE

Salut Doc another winner for Arnaud Chaille-Chaille. Sat on the inside of a bunched field before being driven to challenge between the last 2. A typical Class 5 race based on the form of those in behind. Slow pace.

PRIX GUY BRAUD

Julie D’estruval has been very well placed by Lageneste and Macaire. Stay behind the pace and then challenged on the inside between the final 2 flights. A 5-length win over Made by De Houelle (Chaille-Chaille) who had fair form in the Spring and shaped like a horse who had been off the track since February.
