Notepad - Pompadour & Royan 18th Aug

Saly D'Oroux crossing the line at Royan

It's Monday once again and that means it is time for another round up of the form from the French Provinces. It is important to remember that these meetings are taking place under PMH guidelines, which means that there is only on course betting for these races and most of the form will not be recorded on sites in the UK. As a result, there can be a signifcant edge found when studying these races and that looks to be esepcially true this weekend. As we head into the autumn, the jumps racing in France will soon be returning to Auteuil and Compiegne, so it is always worth keeping an eye out for some promising youngsters in the Provincial races who may be capable of stepping up into those races in the coming weeks. This weekend there were a pair of notable performances from a couple of 3-year-old fillies trained by Arnaud Chaille-Chaille at Pompadour and Royan. In particular, I would draw your attention to the performance of Saly D'Oroux, who produced a scintillating display to win by 7-lengths at Royan. Everything she did looked professional and she oozed class, it will be very surprising if she doesn't make up into a pattern class juvenile hurdler in the autumn on this evidence.

Here are my notes from the hurdle races at Pompadour and Royan:

PRIX DOCTEUR REDON

Kalendaria leading the Prix Dominique Marcilhacy at Pompadour

Atypique D’Oroux rallied exceptionally well to win on her 2nd start. Having tracked the pace, she looked likely to be outpaced as they began the swing for home, but found plenty to stay on around runners and win a shade cosily. She is a Beaumec de Houelle filly with Arnaud Chaille-Chaille and gave a significant form boost to Lambada Bellevue, who beat her a neck at Royan a fortnight ago.

Laic (Lageneste & Macaire) had won here in July and it should be noted that he was conceding 10-kilos to the winner (Prize Money earned and Cathy Joubert’s 4-kilo claim). At least matched the form he showed here previously. Relinga ran a solid debut for Boisbrunet in 3rd, beaten 2-lengths. At the weights, my estimate would be that the first 3 ran to 110, 116 and 110.

PRIX DOMINIQUE MARCILHACY

Kalendaria (Chaille-Chaille) made all, getting the better of Maitre D’Hotel (Lageneste & Macaire) who had briefly headed him as they approached the last. This was a 2nd win over hurdles, but with an OR of 53kg, it would appear that the 2nd did not run to his true form (has an OR 60kg) rather than Kalendaria finding 7-kilos of improvement.

PRIX CREDIT MUTUEL OCEAN

A 7-length win for Icare D’Illiat, who was winning for the 4th time (all in claiming races). Has an OR of 46kg.

PRIX DE LA VILLE DE VAUX SUR MER

Top Gun Team broke his maiden tag over hurdles at the 4th time of asking. Got the better of Mamamouchi, who has a Flat rating of 33kg and was suited by both the track and the going. Having got upsides around the home turn, she wasn’t able to stay with the winner in the final 400m, perhaps fair to say that hurdling trips stretch her stamina, but if she returns to the Flat she would be of interest in her current form.

PRIX BONNEAU PAYSAGE

Debut win for Saly D’Oroux (Chaille-Chaille), who won by 7-lengths. Having sat in a prominent position, she was sent on with a circuit to run and found plenty when driven out after the last. She is a half-sister to 4 winners by Nirvana du Berlais. Sol and River (Nicolle) probably bumped into an above average type on her debut here.
